18 February 2019 was an awesome Sunday morning. Usually, my Sunday mornings are spent over a long run, which is also awesome, by the way. :-D.
But, this Sunday was different. We made people run. 700+ people to support a noble cause of funding education of unprivileged children.
PSN Run For a Cause is an annual community run event of our apartment complex – Prestige Shantiniketan (PSN), which has a staggering 3,000+ houses and therefore, a population of 10,000+ people. Every year, the event is put together by our community running group – PSN Running Ninjas, in association with Equal Sky – our community NGO.
This was the second edition of the event and I had the honour of being the Race Director. With support from the awesome volunteer group of Equal Sky and my running buddies from PSN Running Ninjas, I was able to put together a fabulous community running event which has several run categories including 10K, 5K, 2K and 1K covering all age and gender categories.
My objective was to give our apartment community a taste of professional running event. So, we took the event a notch higher this year. Starting from race announcement through to enrollments, sponsors, bib distribution, race tees, pre race warm-ups, races, aid stations, pacers, lead cyclists, post race zumba, hot break-fast, medals and awesome prizes – we had everything that a world class running should have.
End result – A record fund collection good enough to support education of more than 75 unprivileged kids for the entire year. A record participation of more than 700 runners across all age groups and types – infants, toddlers, kids, teens, adults, seniors & families. Loads of first time happy runners pledging to pursue running actively. And, happy sponsors as well.
